Hello, Gals & Guys! Yesterday I talked in depth about my 2018 New Year’s Resolutions so I thought I’d continue along the same path today by talking about my skin care goals. In the past, I didn’t pay much attention to my skin. I was always more worried about covering it up with makeup to make it look better. It wasn’t until the last year or so I realized my skin is actually a canvas and that’s the first place I need to start. I realized if my skin looked good, my makeup looked better! Since, I’ve spent more time concentrating on cleansing and moisturizing daily – keeping a consistent routine is key.

So my goals for 2018… don’t skip parts of my nightly routine and achieve glowing dewy skin

One of the most important things you can do for your skin each day is to take off your makeup. It is VERY rare that I fall asleep with my makeup on, and if I do, I’m probably sick or extremely tired. Taking off ALL of your makeup is so much more than swiping on a makeup removal cloth or just using water. To thoroughly clean and cleanse, you need to add in some important steps.

Step One: Remove makeup with Simple Micellar Water

The first thing I do when removing my makeup is to use a micellar water on a cotton pad to remove the top level of makeup, and dirt & grime while also removing impurities from my pores. I’ve been using Simple’s Micellar Water for years now. It’s one of my favorite products because it’s gentle on sensitive skin. It also boosts hydration by 90% which is perfect for the winter season. My skin has been so dry I’ll take all the hydration I can get! I’m always amazed at how much makeup the micellar water removes, including my eye makeup. One of my favorite characteristics of this product is that you don’t have to wash it off with water – just swipe and go!

Step Two: Cleanse and moisturize with POND’s Cold Cream
(you can also use Noxzema Classic Clean Original Deep Cleansing Cream)

POND’s Cold Cream takes me back to my ballet days. Fun fact: I was a ballet dancer all through elementary school, middle school, and high school. I joined the junior company in middle school and pretty much danced all of the time… or at least it felt that way lol. We had four major performances a year and wore tons of makeup on stage so that the audience could see our features and expressions. So at night, my mom would give me POND’s Cold Cream to get everything off. In this routine, I used it after the micellar water to remove any leftover makeup and dirt. The cool part about this product is that it’s actually 50% moisturizer so it’s not drying to the skin. It even removes waterproof eye makeup!

Step Three: Exfoliate with St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub

After thoroughly removing all of my makeup, I move on to exfoliation. Exfoliating helps to take off any dead skin and smooth out the texture. I have pretty sensitive skin so I have to be careful what exfoliating products I use and I normally only exfoliate once a week. St. Ives Fresh Apricot Scrub is perfectly suited for sensitive skin types and is made with 100% natural exfoliates – corn kernel meal and walnut shell powder. I love the way my skin feels and looks after exfoliating… so smooth and glowy. Quick tip: I like to use a washcloth with warm water to wash off this exfoliator. If any of the exfoliates are left, you can use additional micellar water on a cotton pad to remove.

cvs reusable tote with makeup removal products
I found that after using this routine my skin felt squeaky clean and free of all makeup… a feat with all of the makeup I use! I would definitely recommend it for heavier makeup days. Like I said above, consistency is key with anything, but especially skin care. It’s important to clean your skin daily and to keep the same routine for several weeks to see real results – my personal recommendation.
If you’re interested in trying any of these products (I think you’ll love them!) there are several deals happening now at CVS (until January 6th)

What are your skincare resolutions this year? I’d love to hear them in the comment section below! And don’t forget to help the environment this year by taking reusable bags with you to the store. We got quite accustomed to doing this in California, as our neighborhood stores don’t even offer plastic anymore. I go to CVS often for makeup, skincare, and even food so I snagged with adorable (and durable) tote to take with me!
