tyler boe leopard skirt

I’m so excited to share today’s post because I’ve gotten quite a few questions lately about how to transition a mini skirt from winter to spring. Or just how to wear one in cooler weather. It’s definitely more of a challenge as more of your body is exposed to non-mini temps but there are several ways you can make it appropriate, and also classy. I like to think that the shorter the skirt, the flatter the shoe, and the longer to the top. Obviously, as it gets warmer and warmer wearing less can be okay, but for now, more is more lol.

My skirt, top, bag, and necklace were all given to me by a local boutique for a collaboration (If you live in the Roanoke/Salem area, you absolutely have to give Punch Boutique a visit) – I literally cannot say enough good things, and this skirt has become one of my favorite things. It’s made of a wool blend so it’s soft to the touch, and also warm – so it’s better for this time of year.

Which brings me to my tips for a mini transition:

Pick the right material. Mini skirts come in all shapes, sizes, and materials. It’s important during the cooler months to look for one that will keep you as warm as possible. Corduroy or a wool blend like the one I’m wearing are great choices. These textiles will help you to create a look that doesn’t seem out of place and also looks purposeful (i.e. you didn’t forget it’s winter… you realize you’re wearing a short skirt lol).

Go for a long sleeve shirt or sweater. Obviously, in a lot of places, it’s still quite cold. So long sleeves or a sweater are the most appropriate to wear with your mini. Even a coat or jacket may be necessary depending on the day or occasion. I chose to pair mine with a cotton long sleeve tee in a basic color tucked in. This enables me to get shape while still staying warm. To achieve something similar with a sweater, try tucking in the front portion to create a waistline

Add a tall riding boot. I love transitioning a mini with a tall boot. As I stated above, I like to wear a smaller heel or flatter shoe as my skirt or dress gets shorter – specifically during the winter and early spring. A tall flat boot helps to keep the outfit appropriate and also covers up a good portion of your leg keeper you warmer.

Think about print. A print is another great way to show that your styling your mini for the season. Plaids, herringbone, animal, or solids are usually associated with fall or winter, while stripes, florals, and bright pops of color scream spring. I personally love leopard because it works all year round!

You can also add tights! Lastly, you can always add tights – especially if you want to wear heels or booties with your mini. It’ll keep your legs warm and is also a more conservative approach. I love Spanx tights so much. My grandmother gave me a pair in my stocking years ago and they are still my favorite. They are so nice and thick, hold you in, and amazingly haven’t snagged after tons of wear.

I hope this was helpful if your itching to wear your minis. Have a fabulous relaxing weekend full of coffee, puppy cuddles, clothing try-ons, and tacos. Oh wait… maybe that’s just me lol.
