Can you believe that Thanksgiving is only ten days away?! The holiday season seriously snuck up on me this year. Probably because we’ve been in the midst of job changes, house hunting, moving cross-country, and now getting settled. I’ve had lots of requests for holiday content this year, in addition to tons of messages about hair tutorials. Btw I am in the process of ordering a mount, tripod, and ring light so I can give tutorials on Instastory. The request I get more than anything is for achieving voluminous hair. So today I thought I’d share a quick & easy holiday hair look using several new products. This would be perfect for hosting a family party or a last-second get together with friends.

Before you start styling, you want to use a shampoo and conditioner that help to create luscious locks. I always look for products with color protection (because I have balayage coloring), frizz control, protection against damage, and a long-lasting fragrance. I love when my hair still smells sweet a day or two after washing! A great option for a color safe, sleek, frizz controlling shampoo is TRESemme’s Keratin Smooth Color Shampoo. It comes at a great price point, AND the bottle is huge so it will last you a long while. It’s specially formulated to keep hair smooth while protecting and keeping your color vibrant. For conditioner, I suggest giving Suave Professionals Honey Infusion Conditioner a try. It smells lovely and deeply conditions while leaving hair 10x stronger in just one use.

After shampooing and conditioning, I’ll blow dry my hair. Quick tip! Try drying hair until it’s 95% dry and then section hair and blow dry using a round brush for smoother, fuller hair. Since I have a thick, frizzy hair type, I also run a straightener over my locks to get rid of flyaways and kinks. For this tutorial, the next step is to place your hair into jumbo hot rollers and velcro rollers. I placed hot rollers in the top section and velcro rollers in the bottom (secured by small bobby pins). The jumbo size keeps hair smooth and rounded under as opposed to curled.

Then, let hair sit for about 20 minutes while you do your makeup or other things. You can tell when it’s ready when the hot rollers are cool to the touch. Then take an extra hold hairspray like TRESemme’s TWO Extra Hold Hairspray and spray all over (lightly, you don’t want crunchy curls). I can’t say enough good things about this hairspray! It does a fabulous job of holding hair while keeping movement and not making it feel dirty when you brush it out at night.

Once your rollers are cool, carefully take them out. Quick tip: don’t brush out your hair, it will ruin some of the fullness (if anything, just use your fingers). Then section your hair in the back and on the side, first spraying in some of Dove’s Volume & Fullness Dry Shampoo (another new fav!) on the root, and then backcombing to tease (any comb should work). The dry shampoo instantly refreshes by absorbing excess oil but is lightweight enough not to weigh hair down. You can also use it when your hair starts to feel dirty to revive your locks while building body and bounce. I like to use a dry shampoo when teasing my hair because it creates a velcro-like effect that helps to hold hair together creating volume at the root. This is how I get such “big hair.” I also love the fragrance of Dove’s dry shampoo (and the bottle looks beautiful sitting out).

My go-to hairstyle for a holiday party or get-together is something simple and easy. I almost always wear my hair down so I opted for a simple side braid that anyone can achieve! Just make sure you don’t pull the hair too tight or it will flatten all that volume. I pull hair from the front and braid to the side. Before bobby pinning down, I will pull some of the hair back up on the side under the braid (if that makes sense) so that there is a bit of a poof like you can see in the photo below. Then to finish off the look, I will spray again with TRESemme’s TWO Extra Hold Hairspray. I spray more generously around my face so that my hair doesn’t constantly fall which will inevitably cause me to put my hair behind my ear.
