Is there anything more nostalgic than attending a football game in the fall? Like this beautiful iconic Lexington street downtown near campus where we took photos! I’m a proud University of Kentucky graduate, and my love for the school and the football games are even stronger as an alum. On my weekend Instagram stories, you’ll likely catch me at the game with Luke or watching the games at home. I like to keep it casual and practical for my game day looks. I want to feel comfortable and most importantly warm. This cold weather game day outfit idea is the perfect look to cheer on your favorite team.

Cold Weather Game Day Outfit Idea

Now I say football, but this outfit would work well for any sporting event – your kiddos soccer game, a tennis match, professional football. This outfit works for it all.

I like to dress in layers when going to a game outside. I started with a basic, long-sleeve t-shirt. It’s a great layering piece that acts as the base for your look. This one is affordable, soft and fits well. I sized up one in this shirt to a small.

I layered a puffer vest over my long sleeve tee. These are great to wear when it’s slightly chilly, but not cold enough to bundle up with a coat. I like to keep my tee and vest neutral, so I can pair a UK hat or other accessories. A puffer vest is a great staple piece to have in your fall and winter wardrobe.

I’m wearing my favorite leggings – the Lululemon Align. You honestly can’t beat their quality and fit. They’ll last you a long time and you can style them multiple ways. The Align leggings have minimal seams and look streamlined for casual wear. They come in different lengths – 17, 21, 23, 25, 28 and 31 inches. Depending on your height and where you like you leggings to land on your leg, will depend on what length you want. I’m wearing the 25 inch. For size reference, I sized up to a 2 (but down from my usual Lululemon 4). I’m normally an XS/00.

You’re more than likely going to walk a lot, if you’re attending a college or professional football game. I’m wearing my Golden Goose sneakers. They’re casual, comfortable and pair well with leggings. I’m a 7 or 7.5 typically, and wear a 38 in Golden Goose.

I finished the look with an elevated, clear purse. In most football stadiums, they have requirements on what type and the size of bag you bring into the stadium. So be sure to check their requirements before attending. At UK, you’re permitted to bring a 12 inch by 6 inch by 12 inch clear bag or Ziplock-style bag, plus a small clutch that doesn’t exceed 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches for personal items. I opted to just keep it simple and bring one small crossbody bag. I love that it still has some fun gold details. Here’s my exact bag. But I’m also linking other ones below.

And you can’t go to a game without some of your team’s gear! Hats are an easy way to wear your team’s color or logo. I get most of my Kentucky gear from Kentucky Branded and Kentucky for Kentucky.
