Details About My Outfit

Leather and faux leather are popular fall fabrics. I love the deep brown color of this one. I’m wearing last year’s color, but this year they have a chocolate brown, which is really beautiful, and a bone white. The ruffle detail gives the skirt a feminine touch and fits true to size.

I paired it with an ivory off-the-shoulder thermal top. It also comes in two other warm colors tperfect for fall. Many of you have been loving this, and think it’s a great staple for your fall wardrobe. You can wear it off one shoulder or choose to wear it off both shoulders. It fits true to size, and I tucked it into the skirt for a more fitted silhouette.

I finished the look with these knee-high boots for a monochromatic pairing with the skirt. They have a nice high heel, so it will make your legs appear longer – which is great for photos! They also fit true to size. I kept my jewelry simple and chose a statement gold earring.

Selecting the Your Family’s Outfits

Getting the date scheduled to take pictures is easy. But getting your outfits together for the pictures can be a challenge, especially if you’re trying to coordinate outfits for several people. Whether you’ll have two people in the photo or 10, I’m sharing my tips for choosing family photo outfits that make the process a bit easier and less stressful. Because isn’t getting your whole family to smile all at once for a photo stressful enough? 😉

Avoid Patterns

My number one tip for choosing the best outfits for family photos is to avoid patterns. If you wear polka dots, one family member wears stripes and another wears gingham, the photo is going to look very busy. A solid-colored shirt and solid-colored pants are best to wear to look cohesive. Solid-colors are also more figure-flattering than wearing a heavy or busy pattern. However, patterns can incorporate well if only worn by one member of the family or used sparingly in accessories or smaller details.

Choose a Color Palette

You want your outfits to look cohesive, but also not too matchy-matchy. It’s best to pick a few well-paired colors so it keeps things more streamlined. A color palette could be browns, blacks, whites and grays. Another one might be plums, cognacs, creams and hunter greens. It just depends on your family’s personal style and preferences on color choices. It’s always nice to get family (or kid) buy in so that your family will be happier to participate!

Consider the Time of Year

I mentioned fall is a popular time to get family pictures, but family photos can be taken all year round. So consider the weather and temperatures during the time of year you schedule your photoshoot. If it’s typically warmer, lighter materials work best. For a winter photoshoot, you’ll want to prepare accordingly with coats, hats etc. Always a good idea to have some layers on hand just in case!
