How I Curl My Hair

Another Monday is here… how fast they roll around. I hope all of you had an amazing St. Patty’s Day weekend! We were expecting rain and it ended up being sunny and beautiful 90% of the time. Justin’s brother came to visit so we took him to our fav local taco restaurant and then spent the majority of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday watching the NCAA tournament, which I have to say I’m totally getting into this year… and that’s really rare for me! I think it’s because I created a bracket so now I want to win lol. Funny how that works.

Lately, I’ve been getting tons of questions about how I curl my hair so I thought I’d share a tutorial today using TRESemme’s Micro Mist Hairspray. You all may remember this product from a previous post – I’ve been reaching for it every day!

For today’s loose curl tutorial you’ll only need three things. A curling iron (mine is 1 1/4 inch), a teasing comb, and TRESemme’s Micro Mist Hairspray.

You can start this tutorial with clean hair OR third-day hair like me. Lately, I’ll start out with straight hair day one and two, and then curl it day three and four. As it gets less straight and more oily, this process is SO easy and takes me about 5 minutes.

I start by sectioning off my hair. I curl in three sections, curling, then letting a section down, curling, and then letting a section down. The MOST IMPORTANT tip when curling is to curl away from the face! I only leave the iron on my hair for 5-10 seconds.

After I’m done curling each section, I spray with hairspray. It’s a super fine mist so it won’t make your hair dirty quickly or weight it down. There are four different Micro Mist hairsprays… Texture, Smooth, Boost, and Extend. I’m using Smooth that helps to reduce frizz for 24-hours (and I always need frizz control) for flexible hold. It’s fast drying and humidity resistant.


As you may have guessed, Texture is designed to give textured styles touchable hold… Boost is designed to hold boosted, brushable styles… and Extend gives all day hold to bold styles.  


Another TIP: Don’t brush out your curls until they are cool – I like to wait until the very end.

Before curling the top section I like to find my part – whether that’s the side or the middle. This way the hair will curl in the correct direction when you’re done.

And sometimes you have to stop for a quick coffee break!

Next, for fullness, I tease my hair. I like to section it from the back and the sides. I pull up a large chunk of hair from the back and spray some of TRESemme’s Micro Mist underneath on the root – this creates a velcro-like texture so teasing will be easier.

Then take your teasing comb and backcomb from about inch up down. Drop a small section, then redo with Micro Mist, and then backcomb again.

I do the same thing to the front sides, and voila!

Before smoothing my hair out, I spray a fine mist of hairspray on my crown.

Carefully, brush out the end of the hair to achieve looser waves and GENTLY smooth out the top of the hair where you teased, teased, teased.

 And you’re all done! Like I said above, this process becomes super easy and can be done with large sections of hair making things really quick. A great hairstyle when you need to get out the door fast or want extra body and lift.
