Good Morning! I’ve been planning this post for months now and I’m so excited to finally share my skin redness reducing routine with all of you. I’ve suffered from vascular redness in my face for as long as I can remember, and have developed a minor case of rosacea over the last couple years, so I finally decided to try and calm things down. It wasn’t until I started seeing an aesthetician in California that I realized why my skin looked pink when I wasn’t wearing makeup. She quickly and very matter of factly told me that my face is very vascular, sensitive, and that I also have rosacea – and I was sort of shocked… and slightly offended. Which now I know is silly because these things are very common and there are lots of products out there to help inflamed, angry, or naturally pink skin.

RODAN + FIELDS SOOTHE LINE: Must be purchased through an RF consultant – mine is absolutely the sweetest! Her name is Beth and her information is at the end of the post.

For the last two years, I’ve been testing and trying different redness reducing products, and I’ve gotten it down to three products from two different lines that I really love and that have ACTUALLY made a difference. Not every redness reducer is equal, and depending on your skin, certain things work better for different people… so much of it is trial and error. I’ve always got my fingers crossed!

I want to go through each of the products I use and also my recommendations for other things you can do to keep redness, pinkness, and rosacea at bay throughout the year. I wanted this post to be as honest as possible, so I’m not wearing any makeup in the photos above. Other than adjusting the light, the photos have not been retouched to hide or blur imperfections/redness.

STAY HYDRATED // One of the simplest and easiest things you can do is drink lots of water. I notice a huge difference in my skin when I do and when I don’t drink enough water. Not only does it help with the pink undertone, but it helps bring luminosity to the skin. I’ve found that I HAVE to keep a cute water bottle or just regular water bottles from the grocery readily available or I won’t stay hydrated. I know that sounds a little weird and I know normal water bottles can be a waste, but I’ve learned I will almost never take a glass out of the cabinet and repeatedly fill it with water. That’s just me – you gotta do what works for you!

GET ENOUGH REST // This is an area where I don’t succeed quite as well as the others. As a blogger/influencer my working hours are all over the place, and many times I stay up really late finishing blog posts or answering emails to catch up before the next day. I’m trying to get better though, as I notice the more rested I am, the less redness I see in my face

RODAN + FIELDS SOOTHE // OKAY… In the past, I’ve had a lot of consultants approach me about RF and trying out some of the products. Usually, I politely decline as it can get overwhelming and usually I have a lot of hair care and skin care products to try. But for some reason when my consultant Beth reached out to me it was different. We actually chatted on the phone and she explained everything to me that I needed to know about the line and answered all of my questions about potential reactions, and skin sensitivity, etc. So since the end of March, I’ve been using the Soothe line, designed for people like myself with pink undertones, and redness, even rosacea. The line is designed to help soothe inflammation and can be used morning and night. I had my hopes up for this test & try but was still on the fence as I’ve tried a lot of products that let me down.

Fortunately, after weeks of use, I can tell you I really do believe in the Soothe line. It never irritated my skin, and after using, I can really tell a calmer appearance in my skin. There are four parts to the process: a gentle wash cream, a sensitive skin treatment, a moisture replenishing cream, and a sunscreen. I’m not much of a “morning skincare routine person” so I use the line primarily at night. I ended up discontinuing the use of the sensitive skin treatment ONLY because it has soy and I have a bit of a soy allergy. The gentle cream cleanser, and the moisture replenishing cream, however, do not contain any soy and the line as a whole does not have any sulfates or parabens (yay!).

CICAPAIR TIGER GRASS DROPS: OMG, y’all! This product was such a special find. Dr. Jart+ sent this over as free PR one day, totally random, and it’s worked miracles on my redness. It’s more of a spot treatment product – so it’s not actually getting rid of redness over time – but for covering up patches of skin under makeup, or without like in the photos above, it’s amazing! It’s designed to neutralize redness, ignite glow, soothe and energize sensitized skin (taken from the bottle). And a little goes a very long way. I lightly dab it on and you instantly see redness disappear. Well worth the money! Oh, quick note, since I discontinued the Step 2 redness reducer from the Soothe line, this is what I use in its place, but in a different order (discussed below).

ENLIST THE HELP OF A DERMATOLOGIST: When all else fails, you can always visit your dermatologist for help with your skin, especially if you’re experiencing more severe clinical redness. I’m no doctor, so always ask if you’re leery of new products or what it safe to use on your particular skin type. My derm prescribed me a gel called Metronidazole that I use morning and night on clean skin that I feel has really made a difference. It also comes in a cream if you have drier skin.

You may be wondering in what order I use these products…

1 // Cleanse with RF Soothe Gentle Cream Wash
2 // Apply dermatologist prescribed gel (let dry)
3 // Apply RF Moisture Replenishing Cream
4 // Apply Cicapair Drops where needed

After this, I will let it sit for a bit, then move on
to primer and makeup if it’s in the morning.

At the end of the day, I don’t feel like my redness reducing routine is a “cure” for my skin but it definitely helps me maintain a more confident attitude and a less angry complexion. One day I may resort to laser procedures that actually get rid of the redness – but even those are only temporary. As I stated above, it’s a lot of trial and error but I truly stand behind the results I’ve personally had from all of the items featured in this post.

If you’d like to try Rodan + Fields it’s only sold through consultants
so I’m going to leave Beth’s information here:
