Summer is my least favorite hair season. Why? Because it means humidity, rain, and excessive heat. All things that my hair type hates. Well, it might like the moisture, but I sure don’t like the look of a big, frizzy mane. This means I look for a shampoo & conditioner combo that nourishes and repairs. The last thing I need is weighed down locks and additional damage… no, ma’am! I’ve blogged about Suave Professionals® Coconut Oil Infusion Damage Repair Shampoo & Conditioner previously and still reach for them often. I don’t know why, but repeated use of my super hydrating hair products can leave my hair feeling heavy, so I love to change up with something lighter every 2-3 weeks.

And luckily, both of these products are designed with weightless moisture!

Since moving back to the east coast, J and I shop at Kroger often. And by often I mean at least once a week, so any beauty and hair products I can buy while I’m there is a huge plus! I love not having to wait on mail, or having to go to multiple stores… who else is with me?! While picking both of these up I was actually super surprised by the hair care assortment at our local Kroger – and at prices that won’t break the bank. I’m sure you can even use Click List, the best invention ever!
For today’s post, I wanted to share an easy (fancy) Fourth of July hair tutorial you can create quickly and, if you have a thicker, more unruly hair texture like me, will survive a fun event with friends or a humid night of fireworks. I know there may not be a ton of fancy Fourth’s happening out there but there are a ton of weddings, showers, etc. happening right now. And if you’re like me, and they are outdoors in the summer, you dread what your hair will look like at the end of the night. This look should keep your hair in place all night and adds just a little bit of sparkle!

Below you’ll find a step by step guide for creating the look – it’s perfect for anyone like me who has medium length hair and feels like they miss out on popular long hair looks.

You may be wondering what Suave Professionals® Coconut Oil Infusion Damage Repair Shampoo & Conditioner has to do with a hair tutorial, but hear me out. It’s the first step to healthy, luscious looking locks – and that’s important to any look you create. Starting with a well-managed canvas is key! I also LOVE giving you all options for different hair care price points. I know it’s not always reasonable to spend upwards of $70 on shampoo & conditioner… fortunately these two are less than $10 combined.

The coconut oil version also makes me think of summer and there’s nothing better to take with you if you’re going out of town for the holiday. The bottles are nice and slim, perfect for packing.

adding dry shampoo to hair

STEP ONE

Spray roots with a texture spray, dry shampoo, or hairspray to give texture.
You can also spray throughout your hair if your hair is too clean and slippery.

STEP TWO

Tease hair for a more voluminous look (then carefully smooth out the top)

STEP THREE

If you have short layers in the front like me your hair may fall.
So I like to braid the front section and bobby pin back.

STEP FOUR
Add some bedazzled bobby pins to one side!

STEP FIVE

Separate your hair into three equal sections.

STEP SIX

Starting with the two outer portions braid hair down the back.
Secure with a clear band tucking under the very bottom.

STEP SEVEN

Using several bobby pins, tuck the hair underneath.

STEP EIGHT

Finish with hairspray – Voila! You’re done.
It’s okay if you end up with some flyaways and imperfections!

To be honest, when I started this hair tutorial I wasn’t quite sure where I was headed lol, but I love how tucking the braid under created what almost looks like a french twist. I knew I wanted to include braid detailing and some jeweled bobby pins, as they are very on trend this season. I really love the way it turned out and will definitely be recreating it soon – so fast and simple!
