Justin received a new job offer with his company back on the east coast in August and we inevitably decided it was the right move for us. We are both from the east coast originally (I’m a Kentuckian and Justin is a Virginian). Both our families are conveniently located in Virginia where he was offered the position so they were over the moon to find out we were coming back. For those of you who don’t know, Justin and I met in Virginia around three years ago and I left to follow him to California in 2016. It was a great decision for our relationship and it gave us an amazing amount of time together as a couple in a new city. We were able to explore together and create fun new memories.

Once we found out we were making the move we made the decision to purchase a home (well, to clarify, it’s Justin’s big purchase but he’s made it all about “us” which has been absolutely wonderful). I feel extraordinarily fortunate and incredibly grateful! We were so lucky to find our dream house on our brief house hunting trip and I seriously love it more and more every day. The home we ended up with wasn’t even on our original list… the whole thing was incredibly serendipitous. Justin and I (and our realtors) all agreed it was totally meant to be. We’ve started to meet our neighbors, and believe it or not, one of them if a great friend of mine from when we lived here before! I literally couldn’t believe my ears when our contractor told us she lived down the street. So now I have a girlfriend for wine nights and chit chat!

We’ve had some moving mishaps along the way, which are super frustrating but, as I’ve been told by many, are apparently normal. Some line items on our “moving in” list weren’t and still haven’t been completed, they delivered the wrong fridge and just about took out the front door delivering the right one, our movers destroyed a significant amount of furniture (I say significant because one was a $500 custom chair, one was the big screen TV, and another was our chest of drawers). The appraiser/woodworker is here right now and we’ve come to find out even though we were completely insured for the move, that basically we get “nothing” for the destruction. Because the tv turns on and the drawers open and shut, we get an appearance percentage. I just don’t understand it. Why shouldn’t you get compensated for new items when your furniture was perfect before it left your house?! I’ll stop here because it makes me so angry – and sadly, a lot of people have told me this is the norm with moving companies everywhere.

Although frustrating, Justin and I have chalked a lot of this up to experience. Things we will know the next time we move (which I hope isn’t for forever!). I love this house so much we will have to have it moved from our lot to another state if push comes to shove. I can’t imagine loving another home more. And I’ll definitely be posting photos soon as we start to organize and decorate. Right now we just want to finish checking off our to-do list and getting things into place like mounting TV’s and getting furniture into the right rooms. Overall, it’s been a great experience and I’d say it’s definitely brought us closer as a couple. Thankfully, Justin and I agree and disagree on just about everything home related… decorations, textiles, blinds, fixtures, the house itself lol so that’s been incredibly positive.

Heidi is finally settling down. She was, let’s say, neurotic when we first arrived. She’s a HORRIBLE traveler. She cannot be confined without creating havoc because she wants to do what “Heidi wants.” So flying with her on an airplane is super fun… NOT. I ended up having to give her a double dose of her medication because when arriving at the airport, she tried to bite and scratch her way out of her travel dog bag. I was in a complete panic knowing we had around eight hours of travel. The second dose calmed her down enough to get us through three hours before she again, tried to fight her way out of the bag. We actually had to block the mesh portion with our feet so she couldn’t get out. After arriving at Justin’s parent’s house in VA she finally calmed down. Only ten+ hours after her first dose… it’s a good thing she’s cute.  We stayed with Justin’s family for a week, then a hotel for a week, waiting to close on the house, so Heidi really had no idea what was happening and her surroundings kept changing. We’re now a week into the new house (YAY!) and she seems to be normalizing. We do have doggie and kitty cat neighbors though that cause lots of barking out the window on Heidi’s part.

Okay, that’s enough for now! Thank you to all of you for your amazing support during our move. We were finally able to get some photos in today for this post and those coming up this week which was really refreshing. I don’t know how people blog with kids – Heidi is too much for me somedays haha.

Have a fab Monday!
