Guide to What to Wear on an Airplane

As spring break approaches, you may have some travel plans coming up. In today’s post, I’m sharing what to wear for airplane travel. However, if you’re traveling by some other mode of transportation, this look would work just as well. It’s the perfect combination of comfort meets chic, with some functional elements.

With the warmer weather approaching, there are more festivities happening like weddings. I shared a variety of wedding guest looks in this post HERE.

With airplanes, the temperature can fluctuate drastically, so I prefer to dress in layers. Typically when you board the plane, it can get pretty hot. But once you take off, the air conditioning doesn’t seem to stop.

This whole look has great staple pieces to have in your wardrobe. I started with this long sleeve white t-shirt. It’s a great basic to layer with, whether it’s a vest, cardigan, blazer or a blanket shawl like I have on. And because the t-shirt is white, it can easily go with most any color. I love the fit of this particular one because it’s fitted, yet stretchy. I sized up one to a small. The tee comes in a variety of other colors and at a great price point.

I paired the white tee with one of my favorite pair of jeans. They’re a great straight leg fit and aren’t too oversized or wide in the legs. These jeans come in a variety of washes and lengths to get that perfect fit: extra short, short, regular and long. I sized up in these to a 25 short and wearing the light wash.

If you’re unsure what length to get, A&F has a height chart to help you determine the best length for your height on their site.

For shoes, I like to keep things as simple as possible without sacrificing comfort and style. I love wearing these mules to the airport because they’re easy to get on and off when you’re going through security. They’re also very comfortable to walk in, which is great because usually on travel days you’re moving and grooving from one place to the next.

I’ve had this Gucci pair for a while and love how comfortable they are. Mine fit true to size, but have a narrow foot. The simplicity of them make them easy to style with casual looks like this outfit or with more dressy looks with trousers and a blazer for work. I linked budget-friendly options below too.

I finished the look with this cozy travel shawl (in stone) because airplanes can get chilly fast. It can be worn much like a cardigan, but prefer to wear it thrown over one shoulder. I think it makes the whole outfit look effortlessly chic. It comes in five colors, and I’m wearing the color “stone.” Additionally, it features pockets for added functionality. I linked a few other similar silhouettes below too.

And what’s a trip without luggage? I have this 21″ carry-on suitcase that works well for shorter trips. This bag also comes in other sizes like 19″, 24″ and 28″. What I love is that it has a hardshell to help keep it protected should I need to check it. The suitcase also has a brake system for the wheels. And you all know my love for neutrals and the colors are so me.

I also typically carry a tote onto the plane with all my essentials like snacks, my computer, headphones etc. This Chloe tote has been a great addition to my designer bag collection. I did a full review of it on this IGTV found HERE.

Do you have any travel plans this year? I’d love to hear where you’re going! Let me know below.
