The Keeneland Fall Meet is one of my favorite events to attend during the fall season. This year marks the 85th season of Keeneland, and runs from October 8 to October 30, 2021. If you’re not familiar with what Keeneland Fall Meet is, it’s three weeks of horse races at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington. It has a rich history in my city, and it’s always so much fun to attend. In case you too are going, or are going to another horse race this fall, I’m sharing what to wear to Keeneland Fall Meet.

What to Wear to Keeneland Fall Meet

Dressing in layers is best when attending Keeneland because the weather can vary from day to day. This affordable, cream sweater dress is a great option to wear. It’s not overly dressy and very comfortable to wear for a day at the races. It comes in over 15 colors and only $38. It’s a great staple dress for your fall wardrobe to wear throughout the season.

I paired the dress with a chic quilted snap front jacket. The Houndstooth print is a great fall pattern to wear, and will keep you warm on those chillier days. The fitted structure balances out the more forgiving fit of the sweater dress.

For the shoes, I chose a knee-high boot for added coverage to my legs, and kept it neutral with the cognac color. You could also wear over-the-knee boots or booties, depending on what you’re most comfortable in. My boots have a heel on them, which elevates the look. I also recommend bringing sunglasses to the track in case you’re directly in the sun. I finished off the look with my Louis Vuitton Speedy 30 handbag. Another great option would be a crossbody bag to have your hands free throughout the day. I kept accessories simple and wore my go-to stud earrings.

Alternative Layering Pieces

I like the snap front quilt coat because it dresses the sweater dress up a bit. It has a similar silhouette of a blazer, but it’s warmer. However, you can definitely mix up the layering pieces to fit your own personal style. A leather or suede jacket would also pair nicely with this dress. Leather and suede are great materials to wear throughout the fall and winter, and are timeless materials. Another great option would be to pair the dress with a ruana with a fun, neutral pattern. Ruana’s are very popular this season, and provide warmth and style to any outfit.
